Promising Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer of extraordinary vocal finesse, Fola, has made available his eagerly awaited sophomore album titled “9 (Nine).” The new album comes with a total of 14 tracks and features some of the biggest names in African music.
Fola’s path to this new album began with his debut studio album, “Catharsis,” which was released on September 5, 2025. The 11-track album featured popular Nigerian artists Victony, Kizz Daniel, Gabzy, and Young Jonn. It helped Fola reach more listeners and build a stronger place for himself in the Nigerian music scene. Since his 2024 hit “Alone,” featuring BhadBoi OML, his life and career have continued to grow, and “9” reflects how far he has come. The album title also has a personal meaning, as it refers to the number nine shirt worn by a striker in football. Fola played this position as a child in Ibadan, and the title links his love for football to his career as an artist.
The album opens with “awade” as the first track where Fola reflects on the challenges he has faced and looks ahead to greater success, followed by “how many?” at number two. Fola then moves into one of the album’s major collaborations on “2am in toronto,” which sits at track three and features award-winning Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido. The collaboration comes at a good time, especially after Fola recently appeared alongside Maryokun on “B4 B4,” a track from Davido’s recently released sixth studio album. That appearance helped set the stage for another meeting between Fola and one of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats artists, this time on Fola’s own album.
Track four is “stubborn,” followed by “miss u ii (nriri)” at number five. The latter builds on Fola’s 2023 song “Miss You” and continues his focus on love and relationships. It was also his last release before the full album arrived and was produced by talented Nigerian record producer SBthaProducer. Fola then moves to “in order” at track six before joining forces with popular Nigerian singer and Mavin Records star Ayra Starr on “treat u right,” which takes the seventh position on the album.
The eighth track is “attention!”, followed by “fine ting (fine $hit)” at number nine. Both songs were previously released as part of Fola’s run toward the album. “fine ting (fine $hit)” was produced by talented Nigerian producers Magicsticks, Dave Nunes, and Puffybeatz, while “attention!” received production from Magicsticks and Germanyyy. These earlier releases helped keep Fola active and gave listeners more songs to enjoy before the full album became available.
Fola continues with “waf” at track ten, another song that focuses on love and strong feelings for someone special. At number eleven is “crime,” where he puts his own modern touch on the idea behind 2Baba’s classic song “If Love Is a Crime.” The track turns the familiar idea of love as a crime into a fresh declaration of affection.
At track twelve, Fola teams up with popular Nigerian singer and songwriter BNXN on “my type,” a song that celebrates body confidence and personal attraction. The two artists have built a strong connection through earlier collaborations such as “Alone (Remix)” and “Very Soon,” which gained attention from fans. Fola also appeared on “Shamaya,” the fifth track from BNXN’s latest project. Their latest collaboration adds another song to their shared catalogue and gives fans another chance to see them work together once again.
The album continues with “hold u down” at track thirteen, featuring talented Nigerian-British rapper and singer Darkoo. Fola then closes the project with “it’s over,” the 14th and final track, which features popular Nigerian artists Bella Shmurda and Zlatan. The song had already been released before the album and was produced by Shallythechampion and SBThaProducer. It now serves as the closing track on the full album and gives the project another strong collaboration.
If you have followed Fola’s rise so far, this latest release is a project worth listening to from start to finish, with several songs that can easily become favorites. Once you have heard it, you can decide if it deserves a longer stay in your collection.
